Sadaf Shamas Ruled Out of Ireland T20I Series, Shawaal Zulfiqar Steps In

Pakistan, August 2, 2025 — Pakistan’s women’s cricket team has been dealt a blow ahead of their T20I series against Ireland, as top-order batter Sadaf Shamas has been ruled out due to a muscle tear sustained during a practice session in Karachi.

The 26-year-old’s absence opens the door for 20-year-old Shawaal Zulfiqar, who was part of the recent 24-player skills camp and has already featured in seven T20Is and three ODIs for Pakistan. Known for her calm demeanor and elegant stroke play, Shawaal will join the squad in Karachi before their departure to Dublin on August 3.

Led by Fatima Sana, the Pakistan squad remains unbeaten in 2025, having swept all five matches in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier at home. Ireland, meanwhile, enters the series riding high after a clean sweep against Zimbabwe.

The three-match T20I series will be held in Dublin from August 6 to 10, serving as a key tune-up for Pakistan ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers later this year.
