Montauk — Governor Kathy Hochul joined local leaders and community members to officially open the newly renovated Montauk Playhouse, unveiling a state-of-the-art Aquatic Center and Cultural Center that mark a major milestone in the facility’s 100-year legacy.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony drew a crowd of nearly 200 people, including state and county officials, Playhouse Foundation leaders, and longtime supporters of the project. The $14 million renovation includes the Sarah and Maurice Iudicone Aquatic Center and a multiuse cultural space designed to serve residents of all ages.

Governor Hochul praised the community’s vision and persistence, noting that the swimming pool had been “23 years in the making.” She emphasized the life-saving value of swim education and the therapeutic benefits for seniors, calling the center “a place that will change lives.”

The Governor also announced a $2.2 million forest management contract to reduce wildfire risk in nearby Napeague and Hither Hills State Parks, reinforcing the state’s commitment to environmental safety and park preservation.

Local leaders including Assemblymember Tommy John Schiavoni, County Legislator Ann Welker, and Playhouse Foundation President Jennifer Carney-Iacono joined the Governor in celebrating the transformation of the historic site.

“This center is not just for today,” Hochul said. “It’s for generations to come.”
