UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating flash floods that have claimed hundreds of lives across India and Pakistan. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and affirmed the UN’s solidarity with all those affected.
The Secretary-General emphasized that UN Country Teams in both nations are fully prepared to assist local governments in their emergency response efforts. With many still missing and communities displaced, the UN is coordinating with national authorities to provide humanitarian aid, logistical support, and technical expertise.
“We stand with the people of India and Pakistan during this time of immense loss,” the statement read.
The floods, triggered by intense monsoon rains and cloudbursts, have overwhelmed infrastructure, disrupted livelihoods, and raised urgent concerns about climate resilience in the region.
