Washington, D.C. — August 19, 2025
The U.S. Department of State has formally barred 17 individuals from participating in defense-related trade after they were convicted of violating or conspiring to violate the Arms Export Control Act. The decision, published in the Federal Register, underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of U.S. defense exports.

Under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), these individuals are now prohibited from engaging in any activities involving the export, import, or brokering of defense articles and services. The debarment remains in effect until the Department reviews and approves a reinstatement request.

The enforcement action was coordinated by the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Homeland Security Investigations, and the FBI. Officials emphasized the importance of strict compliance with export control laws and urged all defense trade participants to ensure they are not working with debarred entities.
