Washington, D.C. — August 20, 2025
Two members of the District of Columbia National Guard helped avert a potentially deadly incident at the Waterfront Metro Station on August 18, when they spotted a man brandishing a knife and threatening another individual.

Army Specialist Tra’shwn Parham and Army Captain Giho Yang were on patrol as part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force when Parham overheard verbal threats and saw the suspect wielding a knife. She immediately alerted the Metropolitan Police Department, which responded swiftly to the scene.

“We showed our presence and made sure citizens were safe,” said Capt. Yang. “We partnered with law enforcement to keep eyes and ears on the situation.”

Parham noted that several civilians expressed gratitude, saying the Guard’s presence made them feel secure. Patrols continue under the Joint Task Force–District of Columbia to support local and federal efforts in safeguarding public spaces and government operations.
