Heavy monsoon rains have triggered widespread flooding across Pakistan, affecting regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Sindh. Thousands of families have been displaced, key infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, and road access to several areas remains cut off.

Prime Minister’s Emergency Response

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif personally visited flood-hit zones, meeting with victims, distributing relief cheques, and directing local authorities to deploy all available resources. He instructed the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maintain close coordination with provincial agencies and ensure early warnings are issued in high-risk areas.

The Prime Minister also reached out to political and religious leaders—including Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, and Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui—to synchronize relief efforts and maximize impact.

Military and Rescue Forces on the Frontlines

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir toured affected districts and ordered immediate deployment of army units for rescue operations. Military personnel are relocating stranded families, delivering food and medical aid, and assisting in infrastructure recovery across submerged zones.

Local Machinery and District Administration in Action

In Punjab, district administrations and irrigation departments are actively monitoring river surges in Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab. Relief camps have been set up in Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, and Wazirabad, offering food, medical care, and temporary shelter to displaced residents.

A total of 263 relief camps and 161 medical units are operational, while both provincial (PDMA) and national (NDMA) disaster authorities remain on high alert.

UN and International Aid Agencies Join Efforts

United Nations agencies have begun distributing emergency supplies in remote areas, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, where glacial outbursts have intensified the crisis.

Government’s Commitment to Recovery

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that no victim will be left behind. The federal government has announced emergency funds to restore electricity, water, and road networks in damaged areas. He also ordered a halt to reconstruction near riverbanks and directed authorities to arrange alternative resettlement plans.
