Canadian authorities have launched a search for Tyrrel Bigchild, a 21-year-old inmate who escaped during a supervised temporary absence from the Stan Daniels Healing Centre, a minimum-security Section 81 facility in Edmonton.

The incident occurred at 2:09 p.m., prompting immediate coordination between the Native Counselling Services of Alberta and Edmonton Police Service. A warrant for Bigchild’s arrest has been issued.

Bigchild is currently serving a 2-year, 9-month sentence for multiple charges including robbery, assault with a weapon (x3), and failure to comply with legal undertakings. Authorities have released a detailed physical description, noting several tattoos including “RESPECT” on his right arm and “THUG LIFE” on his left.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) confirmed that all available information has been handed over to police, and an internal investigation is underway to assess the circumstances surrounding the escape.
