During the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, U.S. President Donald J. Trump delivered a sharply worded speech challenging the effectiveness of global institutions and current climate strategies.
Trump claimed his administration had ended “seven unendable wars” in just seven months, but criticized the UN for offering little support. “What is the purpose of the United Nations?” he asked, accusing the body of issuing “empty words” without action.
He also condemned NATO countries for purchasing Russian energy while opposing Moscow militarily, calling for coordinated punitive tariffs to pressure Russia into ending the war in Ukraine. On Iran, Trump declared its nuclear capabilities “completely demolished” and credited his administration with brokering peace after a 12 day conflict.
Addressing the situation in Gaza, Trump demanded the immediate release of hostages and warned against unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, calling it “a reward to Hamas.”
The President also took aim at the UN’s headquarters renovation, alleging wasteful spending, and criticized the organization’s role in migration, claiming it facilitated border infiltration into the U.S.
On climate, Trump dismissed renewable energy efforts as a “green energy scam,” labeling carbon footprint concerns a “hoax” and warning that such policies could lead to national failure.
