Granada, Spain, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni participated in the Informal Meeting of the European Council, where EU heads of state and government gathered to discuss the bloc’s strategic priorities ahead of the 2024 European elections.

Hosted by Spain’s rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, the meeting focused on key themes including migration management, economic competitiveness, digital transformation, and global security. Leaders also reviewed progress on the EU’s Strategic Agenda 2019–2024 and began shaping the next cycle of priorities.

Prime Minister Meloni emphasized Italy’s position on border control, energy independence, and industrial resilience, while reaffirming support for a cohesive and forward-looking European strategy.

The informal format allowed for open dialogue among leaders, setting the tone for formal decisions in upcoming summits and reinforcing the EU’s commitment to unity amid global challenges.
