Brussels, In the lead-up to the EU Enlargement Forum on November 18, European Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi met with representatives from Western Balkan countries to reaffirm the EU’s commitment to regional integration, economic development, and democratic reform.

The meetings focused on accelerating progress toward EU accession, with emphasis on rule of law, connectivity, energy transition, and youth engagement. Commissioner Várhelyi highlighted the importance of delivering tangible benefits to citizens and ensuring that reforms are matched by financial support and political clarity.

The discussions also addressed strategic cooperation in light of current geopolitical challenges, with both sides agreeing on the need for resilience, stability, and shared prosperity across the region.

These engagements set the stage for the upcoming Enlargement Forum, which will gather stakeholders from across Europe to chart the future of EU–Western Balkans relations.
