On October 6, 2025, the United Nations confirmed that humanitarian teams in Gaza are fully prepared to launch a large-scale aid operation pending a breakthrough in peace negotiations mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that “thousands of metric tonnes” of food, medical supplies, and fuel are ready for immediate distribution if parties agree to the proposed US peace plan. The plan includes provisions for uninterrupted humanitarian access via UN agencies and the Red Crescent.

Negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh are ongoing, with Hamas reportedly accepting key elements of the 20-point proposal, including the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Despite diplomatic momentum, Israeli airstrikes continue, with 21 Palestinians reported killed and 96 injured on Sunday.

To sustain critical services, UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher allocated $9 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for fuel supplies. However, access across Gaza remains restricted only 8 of 19 coordinated missions were approved by Israeli authorities.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has delivered wheat flour to bakeries operating nearly 22 hours a day, producing 100,000 bundles of bread daily. On Saturday alone, 885,000 meals were distributed through 167 community kitchens, though only 12 are functioning in northern Gaza.

Displacement continues to surge, with families resorting to makeshift shelters near garbage sites like Al Amal. The UN reiterated its call for unimpeded and sustained access to all areas of Gaza to meet urgent humanitarian needs.
