The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) announced a strengthened international alliance to fight counterfeit goods sold through e-commerce platforms. The initiative brings together customs authorities, law enforcement agencies, and private sector partners from around the world.
The collaboration aims to disrupt the growing trade in fake products ranging from electronics and fashion to pharmaceuticals that pose serious risks to consumer safety and undermine legitimate businesses. By enhancing data sharing, joint investigations, and digital tracking tools, the partnership seeks to improve detection and enforcement across borders.
OLAF Director-General Ville Itälä emphasized the urgency of tackling online counterfeiting, noting that criminal networks are increasingly exploiting digital marketplaces. EUIPO Executive Director João Negrão highlighted the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and consumer trust in the digital economy.
The initiative builds on previous joint operations and reflects the EU’s commitment to safeguarding fair trade, innovation, and public health. It also supports broader efforts to modernize customs systems and strengthen global cooperation against fraud and illicit trade.
