Albany, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has issued a statement welcoming the return of Israeli hostages held captive for two years, calling the moment “a long-awaited homecoming” and urging renewed efforts toward peace and humanitarian relief in Gaza.

Governor Hochul, who visited Israel shortly after the October 7 attacks, expressed solidarity with the families of victims and survivors. “I met with the families of Omer Neutra and Itay Chen, and I’ve spoken with New Yorkers whose children were murdered by Hamas,” she said. “My heart is with them today, and with the many others who are still awaiting the closure they deserve.”

The governor thanked federal officials for their role in securing the hostages’ release and emphasized the need for a permanent ceasefire. “With their return and a permanent ceasefire, I’m hopeful that vital aid will soon reach families suffering in Gaza,” she stated.

Governor Hochul concluded with a call for reconciliation: “May today mark the beginning of a new chapter of lasting peace and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
