Brussels, The World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate digital health transformation across Sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative aims to strengthen health systems, improve access to care, and enhance disease surveillance through advanced digital tools.
The collaboration will support African countries in developing national digital health strategies, expanding electronic health records, and training health workers in digital literacy. It also aligns with the Global Initiative on Digital Health and the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy.
EU Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen emphasized the importance of equitable access to digital health, stating, “Digital solutions must be inclusive, secure, and tailored to local needs.” WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added that the partnership will help bridge health gaps and build resilience against future pandemics.
This joint effort reflects a growing commitment to harness technology for public health equity and sustainable development across the continent.
