Representatives from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda gathered in Washington, D.C. on July 31, 2025, for the inaugural meeting of the Joint Oversight Committee—an essential step in implementing the peace agreement signed between the two nations earlier this year.

The meeting brought together officials from both countries, along with observers from the United States, the State of Qatar, the Republic of Togo (representing the African Union), and the African Union Commission. The Committee is tasked with monitoring the agreement’s progress, resolving disputes, and addressing any violations that may arise.

During the session, members selected Chairpersons, adopted terms of reference for future meetings, and laid the groundwork for the first Joint Security Coordination Mechanism. All parties expressed appreciation for the support and collaboration of international partners, emphasizing their shared commitment to lasting peace and regional stability.
