As New York faces a multi-day stretch of soaring temperatures, Governor Kathy Hochul has called on residents to take proactive steps to stay safe. With “feels-like” temperatures expected to exceed 100°F across regions including New York City, Long Island, the Capital Region, and the Finger Lakes, the Governor emphasized that extreme heat poses serious health risks—especially for vulnerable populations.
State agencies are coordinating efforts to ensure cooling centers are accessible, utilities are prepared for increased demand, and emergency alerts are available via text. Hochul urged New Yorkers to stay hydrated, check on elderly neighbors, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure. Thunderstorms are also forecast midweek, adding to the urgency of preparedness.
“Extreme heat is the most dangerous weather event we face,” Hochul stated, reinforcing the importance of community awareness and government readiness.
