Bangladesh is grappling with a sharp rise in dengue infections and fatalities, prompting urgent warnings from health experts. As of mid-August 2025, the mosquito-borne virus has claimed over 100 lives and infected more than 24,000 people nationwide.

Medical professionals caution that the situation could deteriorate further in the coming weeks, with August projected to be the most critical month yet. The combination of humid weather, intermittent rainfall, and widespread stagnant water has created ideal breeding conditions for Aedes mosquitoes — the primary carriers of dengue.

Hospitals across the country, particularly in Dhaka and surrounding regions, are under increasing strain. Rural healthcare facilities are also facing pressure as cases surge beyond urban centers. Experts are calling for coordinated mosquito control efforts, public awareness campaigns, and immediate medical attention for severe symptoms such as abdominal pain, bleeding, and fatigue.

Without swift intervention, Bangladesh could be on the brink of one of its worst dengue outbreaks in recent history.
