Berlin — 3August 2025
Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has launched a high-profile trade mission to Germany, spotlighting Scotland’s cultural excellence and economic potential as part of the UK Government’s Brand Scotland campaign.
The visit featured a special performance by the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) and soloist Ryan Corbett at a business breakfast hosted at the British Ambassador’s residence in Berlin. The event brought together key investors from sectors including energy, space, life sciences, and food and drink.
Murray also met with German officials, including Minister of State Michael Meister and representatives from the Bundesrat and the Lander, Germany’s 16 federal states. These meetings aimed to deepen bilateral ties and promote inward investment into Scotland.
The Berlin event was funded by a £2,700 grant from the Scotland Office’s Brand Scotland fund, marking the first in a series of global engagements designed to elevate Scotland’s international profile. The campaign aligns with the UK Government’s broader Plan for Change, which seeks to drive economic growth through cultural diplomacy and strategic partnerships.
Murray emphasized Scotland’s global appeal, stating, “Scotland’s cultural excellence is one of our greatest assets in attracting international investment and driving economic growth.”
Future Brand Scotland missions are planned for India and Sweden later this year
