Brussels, The European Commission has announced a new partnership with local and regional authorities to fast-track Europe’s transition to climate neutrality. The initiative, unveiled during the European Week of Regions and Cities, aims to empower municipalities to lead on clean energy, sustainable mobility, and green infrastructure.

🌱 Key Goals of the Partnership:

  • Local Leadership: Cities and regions will play a central role in implementing the EU’s Green Deal and REPowerEU plans.
  • Tailored Support: The Commission will provide technical assistance, funding guidance, and policy tools to help local governments meet climate targets.
  • Energy Communities: The initiative promotes citizen-led energy projects, such as solar cooperatives and district heating systems.
  • Digital Tools: A new Climate City Contract platform will help track progress and share best practices across Europe.

EU Commissioner Kadri Simson emphasized that “local authorities are the beating heart of Europe’s green transition,” calling for inclusive, community-driven climate action. The partnership builds on successful models from the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and aligns with broader efforts to decarbonize Europe by 2050.
