Brussels, European Commissioner Katrine Jørgensen has outlined a bold new direction for the European Affordable Housing Initiative, aiming to tackle housing inequality and promote inclusive urban development across member states.

Speaking at a high-level policy forum, Jørgensen emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration, digital innovation, and sustainable financing to address rising housing costs and supply shortages. She called for stronger partnerships between governments, local authorities, and private stakeholders to deliver accessible, climate-resilient housing for all.

The Commissioner also highlighted the role of the Affordable Housing Observatory, a new EU platform designed to monitor housing trends, share best practices, and support evidence-based policymaking.

This announcement marks a pivotal moment in the EU’s commitment to social cohesion, urban renewal, and the right to adequate housing as enshrined in the European Pillar of Social Rights.
