Brussels The European Union and Egypt convened their first-ever summit in Brussels, marking a historic milestone in bilateral relations and reinforcing their shared commitment to regional stability, economic cooperation, and climate resilience.
Led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and European Council President Charles Michel, the summit brought together top EU officials and Egyptian ministers to discuss strategic priorities under the EU-Egypt Partnership Framework, adopted earlier this year.
Key agenda items included:
- Regional security and migration management
- Energy transition and climate cooperation
- Trade, investment, and digital transformation
- Support for Egypt’s economic reforms and social development
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized Egypt’s role as a “pillar of stability” in the Mediterranean and Africa, while reaffirming the EU’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s green and digital transitions.
The summit also addressed humanitarian challenges in Gaza, with both sides calling for de-escalation and increased aid access. Discussions included joint efforts to combat terrorism, enhance border security, and promote inclusive growth.
The EU pledged continued support through its Global Gateway initiative, focusing on sustainable infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Egypt reaffirmed its alignment with EU values on multilateralism, peacebuilding, and climate action.
This high-level summit signals a new phase in EU-Egypt relations, with both sides committing to regular strategic dialogue and deeper cooperation across political, economic, and environmental domains.
