ALBANY, Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a State of Emergency across multiple counties in New York as a powerful coastal storm continues to unleash heavy rainfall, strong winds, and flash flooding across the region. The declaration enables rapid mobilization of state resources and emergency services to protect residents and infrastructure.

The storm, which began impacting the state late Thursday, has caused widespread disruptions, including road closures, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions. Areas most affected include New York City, Long Island, and parts of the Hudson Valley.

Swift Response and Safety Measures

Governor Hochul activated the State Emergency Operations Center and deployed personnel from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services to coordinate response efforts. The National Guard has also been placed on standby to assist with evacuations and recovery operations.

“We are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of New Yorkers,” Hochul stated. “I urge everyone to stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow guidance from local officials.”

Public Advisory

Residents are advised to:

  • Monitor weather alerts and emergency updates.
  • Avoid flooded roads and downed power lines.
  • Prepare emergency kits and secure property.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors and family members.

The State of Emergency remains in effect as meteorologists predict continued rainfall and coastal surges through the weekend.
