Albany, Governor Kathy Hochul has released updated 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine guidance for New Yorkers, reinforcing the state’s commitment to science-based public health amid growing federal restrictions.
The guidance recommends vaccination for children aged 6 months to 18 years, all adults, and individuals at higher risk—including those who are pregnant, lactating, or immunocompromised. It aligns with regional recommendations from the Northeast Public Health Collaborative, which includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and New York City.
“Vaccines remain one of the strongest tools we have to safeguard our families and our communities,” said Governor Hochul, emphasizing that every resident will have access to the COVID vaccine no exceptions.
The announcement builds on Hochul’s recent Executive Order allowing pharmacists to prescribe and administer COVID vaccines, ensuring continued access despite federal limitations. The state also issued guidance urging insurers to cover all vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald added, “Vaccines save lives, and this guidance ensures every New Yorker from our youngest children to those at highest risk has safe, reliable access.”
