New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the successful completion of several major recreation and transportation infrastructure projects that enhance access to the Empire State Trail and promote outdoor tourism across the state.

The upgrades include new trail connections, improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and revitalized public spaces that support year-round recreation. These developments are part of New York’s broader strategy to expand sustainable transportation options and encourage healthy lifestyles through outdoor activity.

Governor Hochul highlighted the importance of these investments in strengthening local economies, connecting communities, and preserving natural landscapes. “These projects reflect our commitment to making New York a more accessible, active, and environmentally conscious state,” she said.

The Empire State Trail, which spans over 750 miles from New York City to Canada and from Albany to Buffalo, is now more integrated with local parks, transit hubs, and cultural destinations. The newly completed projects also include enhancements to signage, safety features, and ADA-compliant pathways.

State officials emphasized that these improvements will boost tourism, support small businesses, and provide residents with expanded opportunities for recreation and commuting. The initiative aligns with New York’s climate goals and long-term vision for inclusive, resilient infrastructure.
