Sri Lanka have been fined for a slow over-rate during the opening ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare, following a thrilling seven-run victory sealed by Dilshan Madushanka’s final-over hat-trick.

Match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel imposed the penalty after Sri Lanka were found to be one over short of the required rate, even after time allowances were factored in. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for each over not completed within the allotted time.

Skipper Charith Asalanka accepted the charge and the proposed sanction, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

Despite the disciplinary setback, the match itself delivered high drama, with Madushanka’s late burst turning the tide in Sri Lanka’s favour and securing a narrow win in a high-scoring contest.
