In a landmark diplomatic breakthrough, Israel and Hamas have agreed to a U.S.-brokered peace deal that halts two years of devastating conflict in Gaza and sets the stage for long-term reconciliation.

Announced by President Donald Trump on October 8, the agreement marks the first phase of a 20-point peace framework that includes an immediate ceasefire, the release of all remaining Israeli hostages, the freeing of nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of large-scale humanitarian aid into Gaza.

“This is a GREAT Day for the Arab and Muslim World, Israel, all surrounding Nations, and the United States of America,” Trump declared on social media, with leaders from Israel, Hamas, and mediator Qatar confirming the deal’s terms.

🔹 Key Provisions of the Agreement:

  • A 72-hour ceasefire began midday on October 10, with Israeli Defense Forces repositioning along updated lines.
  • Hamas is expected to release hostages within the ceasefire window, while Israel begins phased withdrawal from occupied zones.
  • Humanitarian corridors will open for food, medical supplies, and fuel, addressing Gaza’s dire shortages.
  • A joint committee will oversee prisoner exchanges, monitored by international observers.

The deal follows months of indirect negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh and Doha, and is widely seen as the most significant diplomatic achievement since the war began in October 2023. The conflict has claimed over 67,000 Palestinian lives and 1,250 Israeli lives, with tens of thousands more injured.

While the ceasefire is fragile, global leaders have hailed the agreement as a turning point. UN Secretary-General António Guterres called it “a moment of hope after years of trauma,” urging all parties to commit to a credible political process that ensures lasting peace and mutual respect.

The Nobel Peace Prize committee is reportedly considering Trump for the award, citing his role in brokering the deal just hours before the announcement deadline.
