Rome: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has hailed the agreement reached in Egypt to implement the first phase of President Donald Trump’s peace plan as “extraordinary news,” emphasizing its potential to end the devastating conflict in Gaza.
In an official statement, Meloni praised the deal for paving the way toward a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces under agreed terms. She extended her gratitude to President Trump for his “tireless efforts” to broker peace, and acknowledged the crucial roles played by Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye in mediating the agreement.
Meloni described the accord as a “unique opportunity” to bring the long-standing conflict to a close and urged all parties to fully implement the agreed measures and swiftly advance to the next stages of the peace plan. She reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting the mediators and expressed readiness to contribute to stabilization, reconstruction, and development efforts in Gaza.
The statement reflects growing international support for the U.S.-led initiative, which has been described as the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in the region since the war began in 2023.
