Tunis, 31 July 2025 — Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with Tunisian President Kais Saied at the Presidential Palace in Carthage to reaffirm the strong ties between the two nations.

The leaders discussed progress on joint development initiatives, including the Mattei Plan for Africa and the TANIT project, which focuses on using treated wastewater for agricultural land restoration. Plans are also underway to establish a regional agricultural training center to boost local expertise.

Migration and energy cooperation were key topics, with both sides pledging to combat human trafficking and promote legal migration pathways. Italy reiterated its commitment to the ELMED power line, a major infrastructure project linking Tunisia’s renewable energy potential with European demand.

This meeting highlighted the shared vision of Italy and Tunisia as strategic partners in regional development and energy connectivity.
