Toronto, August 2, 2025 — Canadian striker Jonathan David is gearing up for what could be the most defining season of his career, with the FIFA World Cup 2026 fast approaching. Set to be hosted jointly by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the tournament offers David a rare chance to shine on home soil — and he’s ready to embrace the moment.
Fresh off a high-profile transfer to Juventus, the 25-year-old forward is balancing club ambitions with national pride. “It’s special to play a World Cup at home,” David told FIFA. “But there’s still a lot of work to be done.”
David’s journey from Port-au-Prince to Ottawa to Europe has mirrored Canada’s meteoric rise in global football. Since his senior debut in 2018, Canada has climbed from 120th to 28th in the FIFA rankings — its highest-ever position. With 36 goals in 67 appearances, David is now Canada’s all-time leading scorer.
He credits the team’s growth to a wave of talent moving to top European clubs, including Alphonso Davies and Tajon Buchanan. “We’ve matured together,” David said. “Off the pitch, things have improved too. We’re stronger now — as a group and as a team.”
Despite the progress, David remains grounded. “When I was younger, I didn’t even know under-15 national teams existed,” he recalled. “Now, kids across Canada are dreaming of football careers. That’s powerful — but we need to keep pushing.”
As Canada prepares for its second consecutive World Cup appearance, David hopes to inspire a new generation and help solidify the country’s place on the global football map.
