In a harrowing escalation of violence, Russia’s overnight missile and drone attacks on Kyiv have left four children dead—including a toddler—and dozens injured, according to UN aid agencies. The strikes targeted residential areas, including kindergartens and apartment blocks, prompting global outrage and renewed calls for peace.
“Targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure violates international humanitarian law,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling for an immediate ceasefire and a just, sustainable peace.
🧸 On the Ground:
UNICEF’s Munir Mammadzade, speaking from the devastated Darnytskyi suburb, described scenes of scattered toys, shoes, and shattered lives. “Nowhere in Ukraine is safe today,” he said, noting that the air-raid alert in Kyiv lasted nearly 12 hours.
❄️ Winter Looms, Aid Lags:
With temperatures dropping, UNICEF warned that families within 10 km of the front line face life-threatening conditions. The agency’s winterization plan remains underfunded by 40%, putting thousands of children at risk.
🧠 Mental Health Crisis:
As children prepare to return to school under the shadow of sirens, UNICEF reports widespread trauma. “They tell us they have no dreams, no hopes—only fear,” Mammadzade shared, urging global support for psychological recovery.
