Renowned British sculptor Martin Jennings has been officially appointed to create the national memorial statue of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, to be installed in St James’s Park, London.
The memorial, located at Marlborough Gate on The Mall, will serve as a lasting tribute to the UK’s longest-reigning monarch. Jennings, celebrated for his public sculptures—including the Queen Mother’s bust at St Paul’s Cathedral and the first crowned coinage portrait of King Charles III—will collaborate with the design team led by Foster + Partners to finalize the memorial’s artistic vision.
“The monument must not only reflect the grandeur of its setting but be an object of delight to its countless visitors in years to come,” said Jennings.
The Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee, chaired by Lord Robin Janvrin, praised Jennings’ “sensitive understanding” of the commission’s significance and his ability to capture character in public art. Final design recommendations will be presented to His Majesty The King and the Prime Minister in 2026.
St James’s Park was chosen for its deep royal heritage and personal connection to Queen Elizabeth II. The memorial aims to become a national landmark of reflection, remembrance, and admiration.
