Granada, Spain, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the sidelines of the European Political Community (EPC) Summit, reinforcing bilateral ties and exchanging views on key European challenges.

The leaders discussed shared priorities including migration management, energy security, industrial competitiveness, and support for Ukraine. Both emphasized the importance of maintaining European unity and strategic autonomy amid global instability.

Held at the historic Alhambra Palace, the EPC Summit brought together over 40 heads of state and government from across Europe, offering a flexible platform for dialogue beyond formal EU structures. Meloni and Merz’s meeting highlighted the role of Italy–Germany cooperation in shaping the future of continental policy.

The conversation also touched on preparations for the 2024 European elections and the evolving geopolitical landscape, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to pragmatic, forward-looking diplomacy.
