Amsterdam, August 11 — The Netherlands is experiencing a sharp rise in temperatures this week, with forecasts predicting highs above 30°C, marking the country’s second regional heatwave of the year. The warm southern winds have brought clear skies, creating ideal conditions for stargazers to witness the Perseid meteor shower, expected to peak on the night of August 12–13.

Meanwhile, coastal regions are reporting increased sightings of “sea sparkle” — a natural phenomenon where algae emit glowing blue light when disturbed by waves. Scientists note that the sudden temperature spike may be contributing to this rare bioluminescent display.

The Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued advisories for heat-related precautions and warned of possible thunderstorms by Thursday.
