Albany Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered flags on all state buildings to be flown at half-staff on Monday, November 6, in tribute to retired New York State Police Zone Sergeant Richard A. O’Neill, who passed away on October 30.

A Legacy of Service

Sergeant O’Neill served with distinction in the New York State Police for over 30 years, earning respect across the force for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to community safety. He retired in 2017 after a long career that spanned multiple roles and regions within the state.

Governor Hochul expressed condolences to O’Neill’s family and praised his contributions to law enforcement, stating that his legacy “represents the very best of public service.”

Statewide Tribute

The half-staff directive applies to all state government facilities and is part of New York’s tradition of honoring fallen members of law enforcement. It reflects the state’s gratitude for O’Neill’s lifelong dedication to protecting New Yorkers.
