Washington, D.C., August 1, 2025 — In a bold move to promote youth health and restore American athletic traditions, President Donald J. Trump has signed an Executive Order reviving the Presidential Fitness Test and revitalizing the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
The announcement, made alongside sports legends and top officials, marks a renewed commitment to combating childhood chronic disease and fostering a generation of active, civic-minded youth. The Presidential Fitness Test, once a staple in American schools, will return as a benchmark for physical excellence, while the revamped Council will launch school-based programs and introduce a new Presidential Fitness Award.
The Council’s expanded role includes reforming college athletics, addressing transfer portal issues, and reinforcing gender boundaries in sports. Executive Director Catherine Granito and Chair Bryson DeChambeau will lead a star-studded team of athletes and administrators, including Saquon Barkley, Wayne Gretzky, Triple H, and Annika Sörenstam.
This initiative comes as the U.S. prepares to host major global sporting events — the Ryder Cup, FIFA World Cup, and Summer Olympics — and gears up for the 250th anniversary of America’s founding in 2026.
