The President of the United States issued a formal message commemorating German-American Day, celebrating nearly 250 years of shared history and cultural contributions.

The statement paid tribute to Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, the German military officer who played a pivotal role in shaping the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. His legacy symbolizes the enduring impact of German Americans on the nation’s founding and development.

The President highlighted the diverse achievements of German-Americans from education and innovation to military service and public leadership. Their contributions have enriched American society and strengthened its democratic foundations.

The message also reaffirmed the strong transatlantic partnership between the United States and Germany. It emphasized the administration’s efforts to bolster NATO by encouraging increased defense commitments from European allies, ensuring mutual security and shared democratic values.

“This German-American Day,” the President stated, “we honor the determination, courage, resilience, and towering contributions of German-Americans throughout our national story. Above all, we pledge to forge a future that strengthens our shared values and upholds America as one Nation under God”.
