Cricket Scotland has officially announced the departure of Doug Watson, who served as head coach of the national men’s team for two years. Watson was initially appointed on an interim basis in March 2023 and later given a permanent role after leading Scotland to notable victories, including wins over three full-member nations during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. He also guided the team to success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in July 2023.
Under his leadership, Scotland performed well at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, securing wins against Namibia and Oman, and narrowly missing out on a place in the Super Eights. However, the team recently failed to qualify for the 2026 T20 World Cup, with Italy and the Netherlands securing the available spots.
Cricket Scotland CEO Trudy Lindblade acknowledged Watson’s contributions and stated that the organization is now looking ahead to a new phase of development. Watson expressed pride in the team’s achievements and said he would continue to support Scottish cricket from afar.
