Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the sudden passing of J. Bruce Bugg Jr., Chairman of the Texas Transportation Commission, calling him a “remarkable and tireless public servant” whose leadership reshaped the state’s infrastructure for generations.
“Bruce helped redesign our state’s infrastructure not just for today—but for the next 50 years,” Abbott said in a heartfelt statement. “Cecilia and I are heartbroken by the loss of our close, personal friend.”
Bugg’s legacy includes transformative transportation projects and long-term planning that positioned Texas as a national model for infrastructure innovation. He is survived by his wife Alethea and their two sons.
