A sightseeing trip turned into a devastating tragedy on Monday afternoon when a tourist bus overturned near Buffalo, New York, leaving five dead and dozens injured.

The bus, returning from Niagara Falls, was carrying 54 passengers—many of them international tourists from India, China, the Philippines, and the Middle East. Authorities confirmed that five people lost their lives, while over 40 sustained injuries ranging from fractures to head trauma.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, deploying six helicopters to transport the critically injured to nearby hospitals. Translators were also dispatched to assist non-English-speaking victims.

According to preliminary investigations by New York State Police, the accident was caused by driver distraction and oversteering. Mechanical failure and health-related issues have been ruled out. No other vehicles were involved.

Governor Kathy Hochul expressed condolences and assured full support for rescue and recovery efforts. “We are working closely with local authorities to ensure every victim receives the care and dignity they deserve,” she said.

The incident has sparked renewed debate around tourist safety protocols and highway oversight, especially for international travelers unfamiliar with local terrain.
