Washington, D.C. — As part of National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Week, the U.S. government has issued a formal tribute to businesses and organizations that employ citizen service members. These employers play a vital role in national defense by offering flexibility and support to those who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
Nearly half of America’s military force is made up of part-time service members who balance civilian careers with military duties. Their employers often accommodate unpredictable deployments, last-minute missions, and extended absences—ensuring these individuals can return to their jobs once their service is complete.
The presidential message highlighted the Guard and Reserve’s contributions to domestic security, border integrity, and disaster response, noting their role in restoring order in cities and protecting communities. It also praised the private sector’s commitment to hiring veterans and reservists, calling them “among the best, brightest, and toughest employees in our Nation.”
The First Lady joined in expressing gratitude to both the service members and their families, acknowledging the shared sacrifices that come with military life.
This week serves as a reminder of the deep connection between national security and civilian support systems—and the employers who make that bridge possible.
