Washington, D.C U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a diplomatic call with Republic of Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos to discuss shared priorities ahead of Cyprus’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, scheduled for January to June 2026.

The conversation focused on strengthening U.S.–EU cooperation, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to democratic values, regional stability, and strategic alignment on key global issues. Secretary Rubio emphasized the importance of Cyprus’s leadership role within the EU and expressed support for continued collaboration on security, energy, and economic development.
