New York, 31 July 2025 — In a unanimous decision, the United Nations Security Council has extended sanctions targeting non-State armed groups and individuals operating in the Central African Republic (CAR) for another year. The resolution, adopted under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, aims to curb violence and promote stability in the region.

The renewed measures include travel bans, asset freezes, and arms embargoes, and will remain in effect until 31 July 2026. Council members emphasized the importance of continued international support for CAR’s peace process, especially in light of recent security challenges.

The resolution also calls for enhanced cooperation with regional organizations and urges all parties to respect international humanitarian law. UN officials stressed that the sanctions are not punitive but designed to support peacebuilding efforts and protect civilians.

This move reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to addressing conflict in fragile states and ensuring accountability for those who threaten peace and security.
