Sri Lanka announce T20I squad for Zimbabwe tour minus star all-rounder
Sri Lanka will head into their upcoming white-ball series against Zimbabwe without one of their most dynamic players. Wanindu Hasaranga, a cornerstone of the team’s spin attack and middle-order stability, remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Bangladesh T20Is in July.
His absence from both the ODI and T20I squads for the Zimbabwe tour raises serious questions about his fitness ahead of the Asia Cup, which kicks off on September 9 in the UAE. Hasaranga has not featured in any competitive match since early July, and his recovery timeline remains uncertain.
In his absence, Sri Lanka will rely on Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage to anchor the spin department during the three-match T20I series in Harare. The squad also welcomes back pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana, who was not part of the ODI lineup.
Charith Asalanka has been named captain for both formats, leading a squad rich in white-ball experience. Key batters such as Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Dasun Shanaka are expected to play pivotal roles, while emerging talents like Kamindu Mendis and Vishen Halambage add depth to the roster.
